Liam HalawithMaroon Echoes News Editor Panther Boys Lose to Keokuk Chiefs, 61-50 KEOKUK – Mt. Pleasant Boys Varsity basketball lost to the Keokuk Chiefs Friday night in the Keokuk High School Gym. The Panthers lost by 11 points, keeping up with the Chiefs early in the game, but then the Panthers were out-scored by the Chiefs who kept a solid lead throughout the conference matchup. Senior Brevin Wilson led the Panthers in points scoring 16 on the night. Owen VanSickle and Sam Jerrell both scored 11 points for the Panthers. The Panthers are now 2-3 on the season, and 1-1 in conference play. The Panthers face off against the Benton Bobcats on Monday night in the MPCHS Gym, tipoff is at 7:00 P.M. Pleasant Girls Basketball Team was defeated by the Keokuk Chiefs in conference play on Friday night, in the MPCHS Gym. The Panthers lost a one point nail-biter Friday night, final score: 38 Keokuk, 37 Mt. Pleasant. The Panthers started off the game in a stumble with a low scoring first quarter for both teams 8-3, with Keokuk in the lead. The Chiefs held the lead over the Panthers at the end of the first half of the game, 18-14. The Chiefs pulled out a physical defense to keep the Panther girls from pushing their way to score, while the Panthers struggled during the first half to hone their shooting skills. The Panthers eventually caught hold of the Keokuk defense when Junior Kenna Lamm and Senior Emma Huckabone were able to break the reins and score some long baskets and put the Panthers in the lead at the end of the third quarter. The Panthers on top 30-23. The Panthers, however, couldn’t account for Keokuk’s shooting abilities at the end of the night. The Chiefs drained two three-point shots that put them on top in the last minute of the first quarter, and with a formidable defense, the Panthers weren’t able to regain the lead. Sophomore Andrea Lopreato led the panthers in points with 13 points, seconded by Senior Emma Huckabone scoring 10. The Panthers are now 2-3 in their season overall, and 1-1 in the conference. The Panthers face off against the Benton Bobcats Monday night in the Panther Gym. Tip off is at 5:30 p.m. Quarter by Quarter Breakdown:
